I just received this story in my email at work:

An Irish Ghost Story
This story happened a while ago in Dublin , and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale, its true!!!!!
John Bradford, a Dublin University student, was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a big storm.  The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got into the car and closed the door.. only to realize there was nobody behind the wheel and the engine wasn't on .  The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road ahead and saw a
curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his life.  Then, just before the car hit the curve, a hand appeared out of no where through the window and turned the wheel. John, paralyzed with terror, watched as the hand came through the window, but never touched or harmed him.
Shortly thereafter John saw the lights of a pub appear down the road, so, gathering his strength, he jumped out of the car and ran to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just had.  A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realized he was crying and....wasn't drunk.  Suddenly, the door opened, and two other people walked in from the dark and stormy night. They, like John, were also soaked and out of breath. Looking around, and seeing John Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to
the other...
'Look Paddy.....there's that ****ing idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it!!!!'

(Sorry, I couldn't help myself, but it goes to show that things are not always as paranormal as they might seem - closer inspection is usually needed to make a determination.)

This story comes from an ad we left on Newszap from "Ben Franklin".

One weekend several years ago I was staying in a cabin with some friends of mine. In the mid afternoon some of us went out to a store some miles from the cabin. When we returned the only person in the house told us "I thought you guys had come back about twenty minutes ago. I heard the door creak open then I heard foot steps(its an old cabin with wooden floors).  So we have dinner do a little drinking and go to bed.

One person decided to stay up and continue to get drunk. Some time later he bursts into my room and slurrs "Get up there something here Fking with me." He woke me up because I've been a practicing mystic for years. Yea at first I thought he was just drunk myself. I walked out into the great room and started to feel the place out. Not being fully awake I knew my brain waves would be in the high theta range----in other words tuned into any supernatural event.

I wondered around the room stopping by a window. I felt the presence and told dave I felt it. Just as I did an extremely powerful tingling sensation ran from the bottom of my spine to the top of my head. So I started asking questions. "What do you want"  "Is there something you want us to see." ETC the anwser we got was drumming. I knew this drumming too. It sounded like Pow Wow drumming. But when we went outside no drumming, when we go back inside we can still here the drumming. Later we found out this part of the park was a summer camp for the local indians.

Thats just one story of mine that involves Spirt encounters.

This story is from Julia, she has had so many experiences, but the right attitude.  Hey thanks Julia! We might call ya.

I saw your post at the SCIB, just wanted to tell you a few of our experiences. My husband and I lived on Long Island in my grandparent's summer bungalow. While there we experienced some of the most amazing experiences. Some funny, some scary. One time my brother James was on a ladder helping us paint. He felt hands around his ankles that yanked him off the ladder. He was unhurt, but swears to this day it was our grandmother. (He's a mortician, he's got a ton of stories on his own!) My other brother was dating a girl that was "undesirable" to my grandparents - they'd both passed after meeting her - once she was sleeping in what had been Grandma's bed, she felt two hands on her back PUSH her out of bed. When we were in the basement we'd hear chairs being pulled around often. Doors opened and closed by themselves, and we've often see her in the backyard leaning over the fence like she did in the 60's, talking to her other friend who passed. We'd smell grandpa's cigar smoke all the time, as well. I was very comfortable having them around, but others were not. Once we went out and left a friend, a long island Lobster fisherman (big guy) in our basement. When we returned he was as white as a sheet, said he thought we had returned an hour earlier, heard all sorts of commotion upstairs, went up to find chairs moving on their own, lights flickering on and off, and the doors all closed, when they had been left open. I had seen grandpa floating outside the second floor window right after he had died. So much has happened, I'm glad I always took it in stride. They are not the ones to fear, it's the living who can hurt you. I'd love to go out with you guys, what a cool job you have. My birthday is Halloween, my parents took us to every cemetery in New York/New England since I was a baby. We are cool with all that. there's a psychic twinkle between my mom, my sister and myself we've always taken for granted. Delaware has such a history, I hope the ghosts serve you well! Learn to call them, if you haven't already. Water and light are by far the best ways to do it.
Best Regards in the spirit world

I lived in the house across from the bank during one summer It's the house the Bodine's lived in now I believe the Lewis's lived there afterwards ! I stayed in what use to be a small Beauty Shop next to the main house ! one night while sleeping in the living room that was the front of the house looking towards the street I woke up and saw mist figure with a long gown and floated out the front window at the same time a pot for some reason fell out of the dish strainer on to the floor and if that wasn't enough to scarred the h*** out of me about a week later I was laying in the bed room trying to go to sleep this same figure was standing at the door way between the bed room and kitchen coming straight to wards me and disappeared through the wall be hind the top of the bed at the same times it felt like the covers flew on my head and i could not get them off, I kept trying to scream and wake up the other half but no sounds came out of my mouth at the same time I was feeling something biting on my hand and could not get it off me. Then the covers loosened flew off me I was crying and finely was able to wake the other half up turned the light on and actually had red mark ( round ones ) on the hand that was being bit ( between my fingers ) Guess who moved out ? I was told that and older lady lived there some years before that had a mean streak and a little doggy

Here's one. I visited Fort Delaware several years ago, which apparently was used as a prison for captured Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, to walk around and check it out. Back then, at least, the restoration there was kind of a work in progress, so there were plenty of dark corners to explore - and it was very interesting to say the least.

However, I came to one area of the fort where the rooms had been rather nicely restored, and the door was open, so I decided to enter the room just to have a look around. Mere seconds after I entered the room the door suddenly slammed shut. Strange, because it was not a breezy day, and there was not another person around. But then I could hear some chatter and a little laughter coming from a side room. However, when I entered that room, except for a long table with chairs, it too was empty!

I decided to get the hell out of that room.

Hartly, DE Story

Hi.  Although things have been quiet since the area has gotten more built up, there are definitely spirits in Hartly.  This is just my story.
I live in Forest Grove Village MHP, in the back.  My ex and I and our son moved in 20 yrs. ago.  About a year into being there we started experiencing paranormal activities.  Neither one mentioned the events to each other until one night.  We were in bed, door closed.  We had a cat but I don't allow pets in bed.  As so many times before, something - specifically a cat - jumped onto the end of the bed, walked up the covers between us and settled down at about our chest level.  Husband whispers, "Did you feel that?".  We finally discussed what we had both been dealing with.  I could see the cat but husband knew it in his mind.  It was a big old farm cat.
Not long after my husband heard running thru the house during the night.  He checked on our son who was sound asleep.  (BTW - our son said he never experienced any of the events).  My husband heard a girl call the cat "Cat" or "Kitty".  As time went on he could see the little girl and I knew her in my mind.  Our descriptions matched.  "Rachel" was about 10 - 12 yrs. old, blondish brown straight hair, pulled into pigtails, calico faded shift and bare feet.  Rachel would generally show up at night.  Sometimes she would open my jewelry box and check things out.  Never took anything and never broke anything that we were aware of.  Sometimes, after bed, we'd have to holler out to her to settle down as she ran thru the house.  The cat was hers.
Our cat saw the ghost cat one time.  It was spectacular.  The ghost cat had curled up on the back of the couch where our real cat liked to go.  Mailyn, our pet, looked up directly where "Cat" was and went into full halloween mode - all arched, hair on end and hissing.  She had never done that before and never did it again.
I think they had lived somewhere behind in the woods.  There is a big square depression in the ground that would remind you of a house footprint.  It fills up with water a lot.  Rachel and the cat visited for 10 yrs.  She was like a member of the family it seemed.  As the area behind us became more developed Rachel came around less and less.  When I got divorced it seemed the cat showed up to snuggle in the bed when I was feeling really low.  Once in a great while I think its been around since then.  But I haven't sensed Rachel.  My ex also thought he saw a little boy with her towards the end.
I have since learned that there was a trading post back in Hartly maybe in the 1700s.  I did find an arrowhead behind my home a few years ago when the soil eroded.
If you ever want to check it out, give me a call.  Like I said, it seems quiet now but there may still be a hum of activity below my awareness.  It is a mobile home park but I don't see it would be a problem to be my guests for a brief period of time.  In my life I've had a few other incidents, but this one was long term and quite benign.
M-and M wrote back and said that we would indeed be interested in coming out and taking a look around.   And asked to post the story on the website.
Using the story would be fine.  It shows not all spirits are up to no good.  I have reviewed a couple of Ed Okonowitz's books in the past (his Delmarva mystery duo) and at ease with the concept of ghosts.  Someone once asked me if I believed in ghosts.  I said I must as they sure do believe in me!
Yes, we did see the spirits in our own way.  I could physically see the cat and had an accurate mental picture of the girl.  My ex was the opposite where he saw the girl but could mentally see the cat.  I just think it was great when my cat reacted to the ghost cat.  I don't think she freaked because it was a spirit but because it was in her place.
Sometime I'll have to share the story of my grandfather.  This happened in Chester, PA.  Just don't have the time right this minute.  Apparently the ability to deal with spirits skips thru my Mom's side.  I wouldn't be surprised on my Dad's as I recently found out an ancestor of mine is the Pirate Queen Grace O'Malley.  You gotta love it.
Have a great day.  BTW - Ed's birthday is Oct. 30th.  Its one of the reasons he got interested in ghosts.  That's your trivia for the day.

Alfredos' Story

Hello m&m,
My name is Alfredo and the picture I am submitting is from my job. This picture was taken recently in the beginning of March 2007 . I work at Sara Lee Foodservice, located in Moonachie, NJ. I am a senior mechanic and work the second shift which is from 3:00pm to 11:30pm. I have noticed while on my shift there has been some activity in the penthouse. Which is basically a large room built on top of the roof which houses some equipment. Mainly screw conveyers and fluidizers. I usually have  to work up there alone since there is only three mechanics on duty for my shift. Recently I had to replace a safety switch and a PD blower. While I was removing the defective equipment, I repeatedly felt something touch my side. Also I can see the ceiling lights  flickering and on occasion see something out of the corners of both eyes. I had the feeling that something was watching me. Since I had to return to the shop and get some more hardware to finish the job, I grabbed the company's digital camera. When I returned and walked up the stairs, I felt the presence again. This time armed with the camera, I took some pictures of the surrounding area near the steps. To my delight, one picture yielded some orbs. That's all for now. Every time I go up there, I always make sure I have the camera. I have discussed this with the other mechanics and they too have felt something was there also.
Thanks for your time,

Carol (P) in CA

I just read the Delaware State News article about your service, and I have a hot spot for you.
I grew up at XXX South Street in Smyrna and there is the ghost of a young bride who lives in the house.  Unfortunately, my parents have died and I sold the house last year.  I have no idea if the new owners have encountered the ghost, but we did, several times.
She walked down the front stairway, through the living room and into the bay window of the dining room.  She was married in the house and some old-timers told my mother that's the exact walk she took to be married.
My mother died in the house, too, as she descended the back stairway, so I have no idea if her spirit is still there.  She loved that house.
Something to think about, if you can get to know the owners of the place.  I'd be interested to know if they've had any encounters.
(Note the address has been X'd to protect the new owners)

I heard the door bump, it surprised me because I was the only one in the room and it has a child lock on it that you have to push at the very top to open. I jumped up when I saw the door was open because I
had just closed it about 5 min before.  I remembered someone telling me when something happens get pics and try to talk to it. So I took about 15 pics, this is he only thing that showed up in any of them. I
saw the orb and tried a similar pic, about 10 more and got nothing. So this was something I could not recreate.
Things happen in my house every once in a while. It all started last November when a good friend of mine passed away. I heard someone walk around my room. The thing is I didn't know she had passed away until
the next morning. I have had other experiences but this was the beginning of what was happening in my house.

Debbie's Stories

Debbie will be sending some of her stories from time to time so stay tuned for new installments.
We just moved here this summer, from Ohio. I found your website, and am looking forward to any local stories of ghosts or unusual events. I have many I would to share with you, including a presently ongoing one,at my daughters home,in Ohio.
They moved into a house a few years ago. The family who lived there, had twin boys and a daughter. One of the boys died of leukemia, not long after high school graduation. My daughter and her family didn't know this, until they asked about the house's history, after they began to experience unusual events.  This was the only home the previous family had lived in,while the children were growing up, The first night my daughter,Christie and her husband Tom,and children Melanie and Aaron moved in,they slept on the living room floor. Christie awoke during the night, sensing someone was nearby. She opened her eyes ,to see someones legs, standing close to her. As she sat up,she saw a young man walking away, and faded out of sight.
Since then, many other things have happened ,which I will tell you about in further emaiils,if you are interested. These include lights, fans, and tvs going on and off by themselves, and one incident where aaron observed the young man walk past him,one Saturday morning.
Our family has had other sightings, which are clearly unusual.  My brother is living in a home, where they have witnessed events for the past 20 years. He is a well -respected business man, working for the local newspaper for over 40 years.
