Closed temporarily for remodeling and a change of management, The Loockerman Exchange, now reopening as Leone’s Loockerman Exchange, was almost perfect for M and M Investigators to reinvestigate.  No reports of unexplained fires since our last visit, however the reports of the shadows/shadow figures and general creepy feelings in the basements continue.

Our Researcher, Sara F. was able to uncover some handwritten deeds dating back to the late 1800’s showing the transfer of the Loockerman property/Priscilla Block Building to different owners, James M. Kerbin, James H. Hazel, David F. Burton and Robert H. Lewis.  Sara was also able to discover court documents in the case of the State v. Isaac C. West.  Mr. West was accused of and essentially confessed to the murder and horrible dismemberment and destruction of the body of Henry C. “Couch” Turner, in West’s room at the Kerbin building, in attempt to get rid of the evidence.  The transcripts claim that in December 1872 Mr. Turner attempted to rob Mr. West and how Mr. West killed Mr. Turner.  Mr. West then cut off the head and feet and skinned the body.  It tells of how Mr. West put the skin in a bucket and tried to take it on a carriage to take it out of town but the horse smelled it and wouldn’t let him.  When he tried to walk to find a place to bury the skin, dogs smelled it and chased him and the ground was frozen.  So, Mr. West brought the bucket of skin back to his room.  He continued to disfigure the body and buried the head near the corner of Water St. and the railroad.  In an attempt to get rid of the rest of the body, Mr. West set the body on fire in his room in the Kerbin building.  The hands, feet and skin he took to the railway yard, buried in a pile of lime.  Mr. West then took the train to Salisbury.  The next day, he took the train back to Dover and turned himself in to the Sheriff.  Mr. West wad tried and acquitted of the crime of murder.  However, he was convicted of arson for setting the fire in the Kerbin Building.  Could Mr. Turner still be hanging around the Kerbin/Priscilla Block Building?  Could his murder and the grisly destruction of his remains cause his spirit to haunt the patrons and staff of Leone’s Loockerman Exchange?  We were “dying” to find out.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators conducted our follow up investigation on 8/2/08, meeting J. R. and Jason at 8:00 pm.  We set up night vision cameras in all the basement areas, Hi8 and digital video recorders to attempt to capture paranormal activity on video.  These hand held cameras were carried throughout the building and at times set up in stationary locations to provided added coverage.  Digital cameras were also used to try to get photographic evidence of paranormal activity.

Digital and analog voice recorders were placed in the basement areas and were carried by the investigators during the investigation.  Electromagnetic Field (EMF) detectors and K2 meters with toggle switches instead of thumb plates as well as non-contact thermometers were used to take readings of the electromagnetic fields and ambient temperatures.  Unexplained variations in which may indicate paranormal activity.

OUR FINDINGS

As with M and M Investigators previous investigation at Leone’s Loockerman Exchange, we were not disappointed by the amount of evidence gleaned from the data collected from the investigation.  After reviewing hours of video, four video clips were separated out, two with “flashy orbs”, one with an unexplained shadow and finally, one with an unexplained light anomaly.  The “flashy orbs’ could possibly be dust as you can also see some dust floating through the video clips.  The shadow occurred when investigators were either upstairs in the bar/dance area or outside.  M and M Investigators has not been able to find a normal cause to the shadows that continue to show up at Leone’s Loockerman Exchange.  Finally, the light anomaly also cannot be explained as there were no windows in the area, few reflective surfaces and no investigators in the room at the time.

An overwhelming number of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVPs) and as Matt has called them, Electronic Noise Phenomenon (ENPs) were collected during this investigation.  Check out the new EVPs page to hear some of the best of these EVPs from Leone’s Loockerman Exchange.

Some of the most interesting data were the EMF fluctuations that occurred in the basement.  Several investigators were working with the EMF and K2 meters as well as audio recorders and cameras.  The EMF and K2 meters reacted simultaneously on several occasions while we were asking questions.  According the responses to the questions, there are five children, four girls and a boy in one of the basements.  At least one of the children claimed to be nine years old.  We were unable to find out how the children came to be in the basement, how they died or who they were.

Some of the investigators had the feeling of someone or something standing next to them while in the basement areas.  Another investigator received impressions of a rose (possibly a name), women’s Victorian era black boots and hat.  The sub-basement area is still an area of much speculation.  There are no current plans to excavate this area now.  Some thoughts are that there could be remains of a disagreeable, aggressive male that was buried in the sub-basement to get rid of him.  The other thought is that slaves escaping toward freedom through the Underground Railroad died or were killed here.  Understand, this is all conjectured, we have found no documentation to substantiate these feelings.

M and M Investigators says:  with the data that we have collected on this investigation seeming to back up the data we collected on our first investigation, we have to uphold our previous decision that Leone’s Loockerman Exchange remains haunted.

We want to thank our friends, the owners/managers of Leone’s Loockerman Exchange for allowing us the opportunity to conduct a follow up investigation in one of Dover, Delaware’s most interesting Haunted locations.

Summer Investigations 2008

This past summer we have had 2 investigations in which the homeowners elected not to have posted on the website.  However, we did think they were worth mentioning.

The first was down in lower Maryland where our client had experienced some strange happenings such as bangs in the attic, unexplained lights, unexplained scratches and a full form of a woman.  This woman dressed in a white nightgown seemed to walk the same path night after night.  So we did our thing, with nightvision cameras, analog and digital voice recorders, thermometers, and the emf detectors.  We discovered the home had a super high emf field and felt that this could have led our client seeing this woman.  Some work had been done on the home and it seemed that the power was not grounded properly.  The client vowed to get that fixed.  We did however get some evidence in evp form, a video of an appearent shadow and another video of a strange light that we could not account for.  We think that if the client would ge the power situation under control (which was underway at the time of the reveal) than the paranormal activity would diminish or totally go away.

The second investigation was up in northern Delaware where we were contacted by a concerned mother of 2, who described many different occurrances such as doors closing, a strange smell, scratches on the children, pinching, full forms of a boy and girl and a black figure that seemed to like to hang on doors.  This black figure was described as having kangaroo type legs and an alien type head (like from the movie).  When the mother called she talked so fast that it was hard to get a straight answer.  We guessed that she was just happy to finally get someone to listen.  Now she had had another group from Delaware in her home but the evidence came up short for various reasons.  However, we did the investigation with the usual night vision camera, voice recorders, theremometers, emf detectors and a new addition K-II meter (2).  We did find some evidence in the form of a couple evps, but  nothing to explain the experiences that they had.  Although, since we were there the activity has seemed to have slowed down and even have stopped.  So maybe just telling her story and enpowering the mother to take control of her house may have been enough.

We know that the stories above are short and to the point, but if we give to much information it may give away the id of the clients.  But the the clients thank you for allowing M-and-M-Investigators to help you help us.

On March 22, 2008, Easter eve this year, M and M Investigators conducted an investigation of an historical 1850s farmhouse in Hockessin, DE.  Sitting on a slight rise at the edge of the highway, this farmhouse was recently purchased by a new owner.  The farmhouse had been in the possession of the Guthrie family for several generations.  The original farmhouse has been enlarged, incorporating the well that stood outside the kitchen.  Now, the well is covered with thick Plexiglas and lighted to make a very interesting conversation piece.  Our investigators thoughts on the well ranged from “cool!” to “OMG!  I don’t like heights, I can’t look down into it or I’m going to fall down!”

During our tour, Lilly sensed the presence of two female spirits and a dog in the upstairs bedrooms.  Upon speaking with the homeowner and his daughter, the dog seems to be the spirit of her recently deceased pet and the room that Lilly sensed the dog in was the daughter’s room – one of the original three bedrooms.  Lilly also sensed a rocking chair moving that was no longer present in the room.  In another of the original bedrooms Lilly sensed one of the female spirits who she said called herself “Vivian” and was dressed in what seemed to be 1900s style clothing.  In the last of the original three bedrooms there seemed to be a somewhat confused spirit named “Hannah” who Lilly felt did not realize she was dead and could not understand why she could not communicate with the people currently occupying the home.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators set up night vision cameras in all three of the original bedrooms upstairs and the four main rooms downstairs.  A Hi 8 camera was set up to cover the kitchen and the other was started filming the well and then later was moved to cover the stairs to the second floor.  Some investigators carried mini DVD cameras through the house during the investigation.  Digital cameras were used to try to capture photographic evidence of paranormal activity.

Digital and analog voice recorders were set up in all three original bedrooms, two main rooms downstairs, and basement and were carried by some of the investigators in attempt to record Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVPs) and other unexplainable sounds.  Electromagnetic Field Detectors (EMF) were used to sweep the house for fluctuations in the normal energy fields which could be indicative of paranormal activity.  Non-contact thermometers were used to check for variations in temperature which also could be indicative of paranormal activity.

OUR FINDINGS

After careful review of all the data collected during our investigation, we found no video or photographic evidence of paranormal activity.  However several EVPs were captured by the digital and analog voice recorders.  Several of the EVPs were captured in rooms where investigators recorded anomalous EMF spikes.  (Check out our EVP page to hear some of the best EVPs from this investigation.)

During the investigation, two of the investigators (at different times/unknown to each other) had a choking sensation in one of the original bedrooms.  This may be a residual relating to how some previous occupant of the room died – pneumonia, lung cancer, Tuberculosis (consumption) – diseases still difficult to treat today, which frequently took people to their grave in the 1800s and early 1900s.

With the number of EVPs and the personal experiences of the two investigators, M and M Investigators says:  Some paranormal activity – residual energies, most likely enhanced by the high-tension wires running between the house and the highway.

INTERVIEW

M and M Investigators was asked to investigate this local business and provide some explanations and education to the staff for the activity occurring here.  Staff report hearing voices, music (mostly associated with the basement and third floors) and footsteps.  Also, in one of the second floor offices, a desk drawer opens on its own and so does a door to the attic located in this same office.  M and M Investigators learned that there was a history of Quija board use in this building and that the Quija board may not have been “closed” properly when the players were finished with it.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators placed black and white night vision cameras in the basement and offices on the first, second and third floors.  Hi8 cameras were placed in the first floor “living room” area and on the second floor stair landing.  Digital cameras were also used to attempt to capture any paranormal activity in still photographs.

Digital and analog voice recorders were placed throughout the building and carried by the investigators in attempt to capture EVPs of the voices, music or footsteps the client reported.  EMF detectors were used to monitor the electromagnetic field variations in the room.   Non-contact thermometers monitored temperature variations.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators was able to debunk most of the reported activity.  The music is most likely from the nearby Smyrna Opera House – practices and performances should be easily heard.  Voices were very plain to hear from the sidewalk as people walked by the building during the investigation.  The sounds of footsteps can be caused by temperature changes in the old hardwood flooring. The temperature changes causing the floorboards to shift slightly, creak and pop.  The desk drawer in the second floor office is affected by gravity.  The floor is not quite level allowing a small bump to cause the drawer to slowly open.  And finally, the attic door, we were able to get it to pop open when we tested our theory that it would open with pressure changes such as occurred when an outside door was opened.  We reviewed all the data collected during our investigation and came up empty-handed.  We did not find any paranormal activity on this investigation.  We only had one personal experience.  Joshua, while sitting in one of the third floor rooms, felt cold chills up his back.  An EMF sweep at the time showed a pulsing variation in the electromagnetic field from normal to very high.  The cause was determined to be the charger for a decorative water fountain plugged into the wall behind the chair Joshua was sitting in.

M and M Investigators says: Debunked.  Another chance to educate on the paranormal.

INTERVIEW

M and M Investigators was contacted by a concerned family member of the Marydel homeowners.  He gave us a little background information and the homeowners phone numbers so that we could contact them.

The homeowners report noting activity since the first day they moved into the house and that the activity can occur at anytime during the day or night.  They have noted that the activity seems to be worse in the summer and winter months.  There is not a place in the house unaffected by some reported paranormal activity.  However the two “hotspots” are an upstairs back bedroom and the area downstairs directly below the Master bedroom.  The homeowners, their children and grandchildren have all reportedly witnessed the paranormal activity in the home.  Also, the dog will bark at the upstairs back bedroom and the foyer for no apparent reason.  The activity seems to be centered around the grandchildren who live in the house.  The homeowners report while painting one of the upstairs bedrooms, they took a break to come back and find footprints on the lid of the paint can and up the wall inside the closet.  The soup cans have mysteriously made their own way out of the cabinet, across the doorway to the dining room and lined themselves up along the edge of counter next to the stove.  One of the grandchildren had her hair pulled to the point where it broke the rubber band holding her ponytail and another grandchild was pushed out of a downstairs closet.  Childrens’ toys that make sounds/talks, do so on their own.  Temperature changes and feelings of being watched add to the family’s uneasiness in the home.  A child has been heard crying when there are no children home, footsteps and the sounds of the doors opening and closing are said to be heard.  The grandchildren report they used to talk to a “young girl” and a “mean boy” with red hair.  The young girl said this was her house.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators conducted our investigation of the residence on January 5, 2008.  We were invited in and shown around by the homeowners.  Lilly was able to talk to and show some sketches she had done to one of the grand children.  Afterward we were able to set up night vision video cameras in each of the upstairs bedrooms, the kitchen, the two main downstairs rooms and two cameras in the downstairs bedroom.  A Hi8 video camera was positioned in front of the downstairs closet and another Hi8 was carried by an investigator for part of the night and then set up in the first room downstairs for the rest of the investigation.  Digital cameras were used in attempt to capture possible paranormal activity and over 200 pictures were taken during this investigation.

Digital and analog voice recorders were placed in the “hotspots” and carried by some of the investigators.  An Electromagnetic field (EMF) detector was used to sweep the residence for variations in EMF which may be indicative of paranormal activity.  Also, a non-contact thermometer was used to measure temperature variations throughout the house.  “Cold spots” or even an unexplained warm spot could possibly be paranormal activity.   We also placed some talking/noisy toys around the house in attempt to entice the entities to play with them.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators captured no video evidence of any paranormal activity in the home either with the night vision cameras or the Hi8 cameras.  A couple of the pictures taken inside the house appear to have possible paranormal activity ranging from orbs to a face peering in the window.  (These pictures can be seen on a Ghostly Photos page.)

Several EVPs were collected on both the digital and analog voice recorders.  We think one of the entities has been watching too many cell phone commercials because it asks, “Can you hear me now?”  (This, along with many others can be heard on our EVPs page.)  Only one anomalous EMF spike was noted and quickly debunked as being caused by the kitchen refrigerator running.  Also, noted while it was running was an increase in the temperature of the wall the thermostat is on.  This accounts for some of the cool areas noted in the house.  No unexplained temperature variations were recorded.

Our medium, Lilly, showed the sketches she had done to one of the grandchildren who reports having seen the little girl and the mean boy.  Upon seeing the sketch of the little girls face, the grandchild’s expression was one of happy recognition and an affirmative reply when asked if this was the girl was seen here.   The grandchild’s expression was not so happy but still one of recognition when she looked at the sketch of the mean boy.  Lilly and Matt were able to make a daytime exploration of the property and sensed that the boy has been connected to the property longer than the girl has and that even though he was a ghost, he may have caused her death in order to have a playmate.  It is felt that the little girl drowned somewhere on the property, either in a well or drainage ditch that was full of water.  During their daytime exploration of the property Lilly and Matt saw a shadowy figure moving between the trees and across the drainage ditch at times.

During the investigation on January 5, 2008 there were some personal experiences had by the investigators.  Shadowy figures of varying heights were seen while we were setting up our equipment.  However they did not stick around to be caught on camera.  While on tour with the homeowners, Lilly felt something push her.  Was this the entities leaving the house and heading outside?  We can’t be certain.  Investigators did get a feeling of being creeped out at times during the night.  One of the pictures taken during the investigation shows what looks to be a face looking in the window at us, so maybe we were being watched.

M and M Investigators says:  This one is inconclusive at this time.  There does seem to be some level of paranormal activity going on in the home but we were unable to capture enough evidence to make a conclusive decision.  We do feel that the entities that seem to be here are able to travel inside and outside of the home at will.  The homeowners have asked clergy to visit and bless the house in an effort to calm down the activity that is so disturbing.

INTERVIEW:

M and M Investigators was contacted by Patty in early November to help her confirm her suspicions that her home was haunted by a female spirit.  Most likely that of a previous owner.  Patty was able to give us a detailed history of the home.  It had been built in the early 90’s and they were the third family to live in the home.  Patty recalls the paranormal activity started almost six years ago and would occur throughout the day, at any time of year.  However, the activity was more noticeable during holidays.  The activity was reported in the kitchen, family room, stairs and upstairs bedrooms and had been witnessed by several members of the family and one of the two family dogs.

The activity reportedly seen in the house includes objects being thrown, shadowy figures seen upstairs, cold spots, sleep paralysis/old hag syndrome, banging sounds on the walls, the electric fire place comes on by itself, the door bell chimes with tunes that are not in it’s repertoire and things falling.  Several people have witnessed on more than one occasion the kitchen trash can lid go flying across the kitchen.  Others have witnessed the colander also go flying across the kitchen.  The bedroom that had been used as the master bedroom by the original homeowners is the site of the repeated sleep paralysis/old hag syndrome episodes.  Different family members have gone to sleep in this room, waking to the sensation of pressure and freezing cold starting at their feet and creeping up their bodies.  The family has also had to replace the door bell chimes several times since moving in.

There is the possibility that the original couple that had the home built could be the reason for the activity.  Patty was able to speak with a family member of the original owners and learned that allegedly, the husband was an abusive man who may have brought about the death of his wife.  Although she did not die in the house, she died just a couple days later in the hospital.  According to her family, the house seemed to have been the wife’s favorite place.  After the wife’s death, the husband moved his girlfriend into the house within the week, distributed the wife’s belongings to his family members and collected a hefty sum in life insurance.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators began our investigation at 8:30 pm on 12/8/07.  Night vision cameras were placed in the family room, sun room, kitchen, three upstairs bed rooms and one at the base of the stairs pointing up the stairs.  A Hi8 camera was placed in the back bed room upstairs.  Digital cameras were used to photograph inside the house in attempts to capture paranormal activity.

Digital and analog voice recorders were distributed in the active areas of the house as well as carried by investigators.  An Electromagnetic Field (EMF) detector was used to check for variations in the EMF which could indicate possible paranormal activity.  A non-contact thermometer was also used to monitor temperature variations which could also be indicative of paranormal activity.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators carefully reviewed the data collected on this investigation.  We will limit our findings posted to the website to data collected that does not have video/pictures of the current homeowners to maintain their privacy.  However, we can describe the paranormal activity.

On video, there was a strange pixilation noted around the arm of one of the investigators when she moved.  This has not occurred before and we don’t have an explanation for it.  There is another video that shows the family member of the original owners walking through the family room.  As she gets closer to the Christmas tree, the lights get brighter and brighter.  The original homeowner who died loved Christmas.  There is also another video in this room showing a bright orb going across the ceiling and changing directions.  However, this video also has the homeowner and original owner’s family member in it.  The last video was caught when an unseen force pushed one of the investigators.  The video has to be slowed down to see it well, but the investigator’s shirt indents as he is pushed.  There was only one of the many digital pictures taken that could have paranormal activity in it.  The picture shows a mist at the bottom of the stairs where the woman who originally owed the house may have landed after possibly having been pushed down the stairs.  No evidence of paranormal activity was noted on the Hi8 tape.

(See our videos and ghostly photos pages to see this evidence for yourself)

The digital and analog voice recorders in the living room and the sunroom gave us a large number of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVPs).  Everything from the standard “get out of my house” to “help me” and “you’ve been kind to me” (hear these and others on our EVPs page)

There were no EMF anomalies noted in the sweeps throughout the house.  Temperature changes were recorded in the bedroom associated with the episodes of sleep paralysis/old hag syndrome.  The variations were as great as dropping from 68 degrees F. to 58 degrees F in a matter of less than three minutes.  This was accompanied by sensations of extreme cold and short episodes of sharp pains felt by the investigator lay on the bed in this room.

The investigator that was pushed in the family room was also touch on the top of his head while upstairs in one of the bedrooms.  There were also radios both upstairs and down that came on by themselves and turned themselves off a couple of times during the evening.  One of the investigators had her batteries drained in her camera and seems to have lost some of the video footage she had taken.  When she returned home the camera was functioning fine.

Our sensitive, Lilly, had been in contact with the spirit of the woman for several days and with her guidance was able to walk the homeowners and family member through what she described as the original homeowner’s last day in the house, arguing with her husband, going through the house to different rooms to get away from him, possibly being hit and falling or being pushed down the stairs to die just a few days later in the hospital.

M and M Investigators says: We believe there is paranormal activity happening here.  However based on the data that we collected during our investigation we can not say that it meets the criteria of a true haunting.

INTERVIEW

This is another investigation brought to M and M Investigators by our friend Tim S. and after many phone calls/emails we were able to get our schedules to match up.  We met on November 13, 2007 to tour the building and find out what the staff at R & R Realty was experiencing.  Our contact person reported the previous owners of the building were very tormented by the spirits of the house.  She described how the previous owners had allowed the house to fall into a state of disrepair and they seemed not to show the property the respect it deserved.  Our contact stated R & R Realty had only been in the building for a little over a year and described a period of high activity during the first few months while renovations were made.  Once the building was renovated the activity decreased somewhat.  M and M Investigators was told about a tall, dark figure that was seen crossing a room; sounds of something pacing the hardwood floor, also breathing and knocking sounds; smells of roses, cold spots and having shiny things (watches/coins) disappear only to reappear months later in another place in the building.  The missing watch returning really freaked the staff out!  Staying to work late at the office has been reported to be associated with hearing the before mentioned breathing sounds, the feeling of being watched and that it is time to leave for the night.  Are the spirits trying to tell the staff to go home for the night, that it is the ghost’s turn to have their home back?

This building is on the National Register of Historic Places: Victorian Dover Historic District and was entered on July 16, 1979.  Prior to 1850, this location was farmland owned by the Bradford family.  After this time, Thomas Budd Bradford sold the land to Richard M. Jones before 1855.  The land was originally purchased as part of the Presbyterian Church, and a small parsonage for the church was built, also occupying neighboring land that was owned by E. A. Smithers.  Records indicate that on December 15, 1855, an insurance policy was taken out by Jones who tore down the parsonage on the two lots, and built the permanent structure on this location.  It was used as a residence until 1887, when Jones sold the property to Edward W. Ridgley.  Ridgley sold the property to be used as an annex for the Court House, which it was, until the early 1900’s.  Research from this point forward would be done at the Kent County Building of Deeds and Records. However, it has been disclosed that the owner prior to the current owner, Mr. Rodriguez, was a person by the last name of Myles or Miles.  Research can be done from the current owner back at the building of Deeds and Records.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators conducted our investigation on the cool clear night of November 17, 2007.  Our investigators set up the night vision cameras in areas on all three floors of the building.  On the first floor, cameras were set up in the conference room, hallway, sun porch and back stair.  On the second floor, cameras were placed in the two offices where activity was reported and the front stair.  On the third floor, a camera was placed in the only office being used on this floor.  Hi8 cameras were positioned in the basement which may have been used as a holding area for prisoners awaiting trial when the building was the old State House.  Digital cameras were used to photograph the building inside and out.

Digital and analog voice recorders were placed in reportedly active areas and carried by investigators in attempt to capture Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVPs).  Electromagnetic Field (EMF) readings and Non-Contact Thermometer readings were taken throughout the building in attempt to document EMF or temperature fluctuations that may be indicative of paranormal activity.

Our sensitive roamed through the hallways and offices to see and/or hear what would show itself and/or speak to her.  Lilly has continued to stun and amaze us with the information she is able to pull out of thin air.  We hope to be better able to help our clients with Lilly’s help.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators had an interesting night at R & R Realty.  Upon review of the digital video, an orb was noted in a reportedly active office and two separate camera shifts were noted.  (Remember the report of the spirits liking shiny things?  Some of our cameras are shiny silver, others are black.  Only the silver ones were moved!)  The movement was away from the direction it should have been pulled if it had been the weight of the wire or the wire being pulled/tripped over.  Also, the wires are taped down with duct tape to help prevent camera movement/damage.  No one was in either of the rooms when the cameras were moved.  One of the camera shifts takes place over an extended period of time (~ 2 mins.).  Nothing was seen on the Hi8 cameras in the basement except dust.  (See our videos page)

Approximately 500 digital photographs were taken during the course of the investigation.  From that, only a couple had possible paranormal activity.  Including what could be the tall dark figure reported by the staff at R & R Realty.  (See our Ghostly Photos page to see him for yourself.)

Review of the digital and analog voice recorders proved very productive with a repeated sentiment to get out of their house, in what seems to be an Italian accent.  The spirits were very talkative that evening.  Along with the EVPs we obtained that evening, there were also a few audible disembodied voices heard by several investigators at the same time.  There was a male voice that said “Hey!” heard by at least four investigators and a cat “meow” sound that was heard by three investigators.  Strangely enough, the audible disembodied voices did not show up on the voice recorders.  Obviously, grounds for more research!  (Listen to the spirits on our EVPs page to hear some of the best EVPs captured that night.)

No anomalous EMF spikes were reported during the investigation.  The cold spot in the closet of the reportedly active office can be from a couple of factors, being on an outside wall or the quarter inch separation in the plaster from floor to ceiling.  That is not to say that we are ruling out paranormal activity as a causative factor.  One other office was noted by different investigators to have moving cold spots at times during the night.

As for personal experiences, each of the investigators heard disembodied voices, breathing sounds, whispers.  One even heard her named called but it was not by any of the other investigators!  Our Lead Investigator was walking down one of the stairways when something passed her.  She felt a cold breeze that went across her back and even blew her hair up.  Shadows were seen – some that could be explained and some that could not.  Finally, after having an uneasy feeling since walking in the door, one of our investigators was scratched on the shoulder.  The inch and a half long scratch was gone by the next day.  The shoulder on which she was scratched was 10 degrees hotter than the other and there was an EVP caught at the time of the attack to explain.  (Give a listen on our EVPs page.)

Lilly felt the tall dark figure to be of Scottish decent, picked up the name Audrey or Aubrey in the first floor hallway, Alfred in the basement (who had been forgotten) and Leonard and Isabelle Wilcox.  We are still trying to research these names to see what connection there is to the R & R Realty Building.

M and M Investigators says:  After review of all the evidence and discussion of reasons why, how to debunk the reported activity and experiencing some of the activity firsthand we have reached the conclusion that this location is haunted.  We will be asking permission to return to R & R Realty to continue our research of this most interesting historical home and business.

Two Investigations (Debunked)

Over the past couple of months we have had many investigations.  Some of them had paranormal activity but a couple we were able to find other reasons for the creepy feelings that our homeowners were having.  Below are mini write-ups for these investigations.

The first was in Milton, the homeowner had the feeling of being watched, heard voices and saw shadows.  During the investigation we were able to dismiss the shadows as vehicles lights catching the glass and mirrors in her house and reflecting.  She also had high EMF readings near her bed in her bedroom.  She had also complained of headaches and a creepy feeling.  However, the EMF spikes only occurred when more that 1 appliance was running at a time.  For example, several air conditioners throughout the home would run at the same time and the EMF would spike for several minutes.  The voices were a symptom of the EMF also. We thank the homeowner for the chance to investigate her home.

The second home was in Dover.  The homeowner has experienced 2 deaths of family members over the past year.  Our hearts go out to her.  The homeowner had purchased a picture of a lighthouse scene and it made sounds like waves crashing and seagulls singing.  But over the past month the sounds changed.  The sounds got longer and deeper and not as sharp as it had been when first bought.  She had the feeling in the house of not being alone and something evil.  Our investigation started, and right away we picked up super high EMF readings throughout the home.  On a wall, in the floor of the second floor.  This EMF affected our investigators, feeling of sickness, and 1 of us even had a nose bleed.  These feelings subsided after leaving the residence for a few minutes.  After trying to explain EMF to the homeowner she seemed to be very receptive.  Our analysis did not yield anything paranormal.  Except for the super high continuous EMF.  We contacted the homeowner and let her know our findings and gave some options.  MMI put her in contact with other groups in the area to maybe get a second opinion.  (which is everyones right to).
So we were able to find other reasons for the creepy and crawly feelings these two clients were having.  Not every place we go is haunted or has paranormal activity, and if we can prove or even disprove a haunting, we say we had a great investigation.

Harrington, DE Business

HARRINGTON BUSINESS – HARRINGTON, DE

M and M Investigators Team on this investigation:

Matt H. – Co-Founder

Mike L. – Co – Founder

Vicki P. – Lead Investigator

M and M Investigators (M.M.I.) was contacted through our Lead Investigator, Vicki P. by a friend of hers regarding a business the friend had recently opened in Harrington, DE.  The business is operated by two ladies, both of whom have been experiencing strange and frightening occurrences in the building.  One of the ladies (Lady A) went to check her hair in the full-length bathroom mirror.  While doing so, she saw a large man in a brown suit standing behind her.  Startled, she quickly turned around to find…no one was there.  Lady A also reports having been tapped on the shoulder a couple of times when there has been no one around.  She is ready to sell the business so as not to have to work in the building again.

The second lady (Lady M.) explained she was carrying her tea pot down the hall toward the bathroom when a hand reached out of the wall to grab her.  She walked right on by as if she hadn’t seen what she really did see.  She continued to explain and show M.M.I. where store products have been moved on the shelves, how large glass jars (bulk seasonings and such) go from their contents being level inside the jars to unevenly distributed and sloped up one side of the jar.  Several jars will do this and their contents will all be sloped in the same direction.  One day they will be sloped to the front, the next day the contents will be sloped to the right side, the following day, sloped to the back and so on.  Lady M. states they vacuum every night before they leave and they will find things on the floor in obvious places when they open in the morning, store products and coins are some of the items they have found.  Shadows are seen, doors open or close by themselves especially when you are by yourself in the store.  The electric goes off and on for no reason, the electric scale acts like it is in use when there is nothing around it.  She complains of being tired after spending only a short time in the shop and has experienced a suffocating feeling at times.  One morning when opening the shop, a single dusty boot print was seen on the floor in one of the rooms, several yards away from the basement door.  However, the dust in which the boot print was made appeared to have come from the basement.  Also, in the same room next to the boot print, a piece of equipment weighing 50 to 60 lbs was knocked over.  The basement door is always kept locked and there is no access from outside into the basement.  No one from the shop likes the feel of the basement – “it’s creepy!” or the closet right next to the basement door – “it’s oppressive.”

OUR INVESTIGATION:

M.M.I. Arrived at the store at approximately 19:30 on September 15, 2007 and met Lady M. who showed us around and graciously offered us refreshments of coffee and teas.  We were able to set up black and white night vision cameras to monitor the open area of the store, bathroom hallway, large glass jars, the basement and the room where the boot print was found.  Hi8 cameras were placed to monitor the bathroom hallway and the basement.  Digital cameras were used to take pictures all over the store, inside and out.

An Electromagnetic Field Detector (EMF) and a Non-Contact Thermometer were used to measure EMF and temperature fluctuations which may be indicative of paranormal activity.  Digital and Analog voice recorders were used in attempt to capture Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP).  Voice recorders were placed in the basement, bathroom hallway and boot print room as well as carried by investigators.

OUR FINDINGS

There was no video evidence of paranormal activity despite more than forty hours of digital video and Hi8 video.  Also with the hundreds of pictures taken during the investigation, only two had possible paranormal evidence.  One of which would be too difficult to see on the website but the other appears to be a woman with long dark hair in a dress with a parasol. (Check out our Ghostly photos page to see her.)

There were no abnormal temperature readings noted during the night.  We did notice that there were cooler readings and a slight draft at the accordion window fittings next to each of the air conditioners.  Also, in the basement, temperature readings were running normal along with the rest of the building except for one spot that read almost 30 degrees hotter!  It didn’t take too long to figure out that it was the hot water heater.

An EMF sweep of the building had been done early in the investigation with no anomalous readings at all.  During a second EMF sweep, in which an investigator was attempting to provoke any spirits that might be in the building, the EMF detector gave a reading of > 5 mGauss in an area about three feet wide and six feet tall for just over six minutes.  This occurred in the hallway between the basement and closet doorways.  There are no electrical explanations for this.  It was also associated with an EVP that sounded like it said to “Call me Mister.”  I guess he didn’t like how the investigator was talking when trying to provoke the spirits!  (To hear the EVPs from this investigation, go to our EVP page.)

There were also some personal experiences had by investigators.  While in the basement, Mike had his back about 6 – 8 inches away from the wall and Vicky was across the small room sitting on the stairs.  While trying to get the spirits to interact with them, Mike felt and heard someone/something touch him on the back.  It sounded just like someone taping their finger on the logo on the back of our shirts.  All the hair on his arms and legs stood up at the same time he was touched.  All three investigators could very plainly see the face in the monitor from one of the cameras upstairs.  It was probably just “matrixing”, your mind making a pattern out of something you see in order to try to make sense of it, but we were not able to locate a definite source in front of the camera.  When the video was reviewed the face was no longer there as it had been on the monitor.  A couple of the large glass jars on the shelf that had been level at the start of our investigation were no longer level.  There were three jars whose contents were sloped up the right hand side.  The sound of a glass jar being tapped was heard on one of the audio recordings but the video did not show anyone or anything around the glass jars at the time.  One other thing, we almost thought we had a spirit responding to us for a short time.  We thought it was turning on the water in the bathroom and off real quick.  Vicky was sitting in the hallway outside the bathroom and asking it to do it again.  It did it!  However the bathroom sink was dry.  Then we considered it could be the toilet – sometimes they need to have parts replaced inside the tank and until that is done they will continually loose water.  We thought this hiss sound could be the water refilling the toilet tank.  We ruled this out when the lid was taken off the tank and water was made to fill into the tank.  It made a similar but different sound.  It took a while, but we found the source of the hissing sound that seemed to respond to our requests…it was the automatic air freshener set above the bathroom door on the inside.  It was set to spray every 18 minutes.  It had us going for much longer than that!  Also, at the end of this investigation we were visited by a representative of the Harrington Police Department.  We appreciate his stopping by to check on us to see if we were alright.

M.M.I. Says:  There is some paranormal activity going on here.  The EMF spike and related EVP as well as the investigator who was touched are compelling evidence toward the paranormal.  However the limited photographic and nonexistent video data keep us from being able to say anything more than this.

Clayton, DE Farm House

PRIVATE RESIDENCE/LARGE FARM HOUSE –CLAYTON, DE

M and M Investigators Team on this investigation:

Matt H. – Co-Founder

Mike L. Co-Founder

Vicki P. – Lead Investigator

Chris C. – Investigator

Vicky H. – Investigator

Charlotte L. – Investigator

Kimberly M. – Guest Investigator

On Saturday August 4th, 2007 M and M Investigators (M.M.I.) received a call from Mr. C. in Clayton, DE.  He explained that he was living in a large three storied farm house in which he and his family only lived in one half of the house due to the size/expense and because of the paranormal activity that occurs.  Mr. C. stated the house was originally built in the mid 1800’s but has been rebuilt a couple of times when half of the home was destroyed by fire and struck by a tornado (yes, the same side of the home both times).  The farm covered many acres and was used to keep milk cattle.

Mr. C. said they have noticed the activity since moving in and report that usually it starts just after dark and can occur all through the night.  Activity reported includes: a door from the living room to the unused side of the house that closes and locks on its own causing someone to have to take a circuitous path through the house to reach the other side.  A little girl has been seen in the window of a second floor room and an old man in coveralls and wide-brimmed black hat has been seen at the top of the stairs staring into Mr. C.’s bedroom.  He reports hearing “something” running around upstairs and “something” that comes downstairs at about 5 am.  Mr. C. says that visitors to the farm house are not able to stay in the master bedroom in the unused side of the house.  “It is always cold in there – like an ice box”.  There is a “dead area” between the kitchen and the living room where the family experiences difficulty with many types of electrical items.  Mr. C. walked through this area while talking to me on his cell phone and we were disconnected.  He had to go outside to regain a signal on his phone to be able to call me back.  He says this occurs with the home’s portable phone too and anything with batteries can have the batteries drained while in this “dead area”.  There have also been orbs and a smell of urine/ammonia associated with this area (reminiscent of the orb at Blue Coat Inn).  Mr. C. also related an experience he and a friend had during the demolition of an old barn on the property.  He and his friend where in the bucket of a bucket truck and had placed a sawsall a few feet into the loft of the barn.  After a few minutes the sawsall was thrown straight out of the loft, clearing the bucket and down to the ground.  Mr. C. says no one pulled the power cord.  Even if someone had, the sawsall would have come down into the bucket, not straight out.  Mr. C. reports having noted increases in activity after moving things around in the attic and recently after moving some items out of the house.

OUR INVESTIGATION:

M.M.I. arrived at approximately 8:30 pm on August 25th.  It had been a hot, humid day and now was turning into a stormy night with several bolts of lightning on the horizon.  We set up the night vision cameras in the attic, unused master bedroom, bedroom where the little girl is seen in the window, on the door that closes/locks and in the basement.  A Hi8 camera was set up in the living room to get a different angle on the door that closes/locks.  Mike took a Hi8 mobile with him through the farm house.

Digital cameras were used by several investigators to attempt to collect photographic paranormal evidence.  Pictures were taken throughout the farm house and on the grounds outside.

Digital and Analog voice recorders were placed in various areas of the farmhouse such as the unused master bedroom, hall outside unused master bedroom, in the bedroom where the little girl is seen.  Other voice recorders were carried by investigators.

Electromagnetic Field (EMF) and non-contact thermometer readings were taken throughout the farm house.  A stationary digital thermometer was placed in the unused master bedroom.  We set up a couple “staged” areas to see if we could get any of the entities to “play” with a ball, toy cars, a pendulum or paper and pen.

OUR FINDINGS

After many hours of reviewing digital video and Hi8 tapes M.M.I. were disappointed that the only thing to report were the occasional “dust orb”.  No other paranormal evidence was captured on video during our investigation.  The door that closes and locks itself did not move even with the changes in air pressure caused by investigators opening an outside door.  There were also no unexplainable EMF or temperature readings.  The Unused master bedroom was found to be of a comparable temperature with the rest of the rooms on the same floor of the house.  Also, the attic had cooled down several degrees as the night progressed, however the farm house has a metal roof and it had been raining steadily for a few hours accounting for this drop in temperature.  Even in the “dead area” in the area between the kitchen and the living room, there had been no anomalous EMF readings.  We had not lost battery power in any of the equipment and our cell phones maintained reception in the “dead area”.  We had no photographic evidence of any orb in this area and no urine/ammonia smell.  None of the “staged” areas were disturbed or “played” with during the investigation.

The digital cameras also picked up some “dust orbs” and little else.  The only other thing seems to Mike’s orange orb following him again.  It seems a little smaller but other than that it looks like the same color as the one that has been photographed behind him a few other times.

The one area where M.M.I. did collect some intriguing data was in the area of Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP).There seem to be voices of several different entities on the voice recorders that were throughout the farm house.  However, many of the EVPs came from in or around the unused master bedroom.  This may be why Mr. C. has found that no one can get a peaceful nights rest in this room.  Check out our EVPs page to hear the young boy ask, when can he talk to his daddy? and more EVPs from this investigation.

As far as personal experiences during this investigation, none of the investigators had any bad feelings or were “creeped out” at any time.  The only personal experience to document is that of one of the investigators who seemed slightly disoriented and needed direction how to get form one area of the house to another.  This is completely out of the ordinary for this investigator who normally has an impeccable sense of direction.

M and M Investigators says:  At this time we will say there is at least a little paranormal activity going on in the farm house based on the limited evidence we were able to collect.  We will discuss the possibility of a follow up investigation to attempt to collect more data to make a more definitive decision regarding this case.

Several generations of Keisha’s family have lived and died in their close-knit family’s home.  Keisha’s acquaintance with one of the M and M Investigators led her to contact us shortly after her grandmother’s passing away in the home, that and the increase in unexplained occurrences.  Slamming doors, disembodied footsteps, strange odors, feelings of someone playing with their hair and the kitchen door deadbolt unlocking by itself to name a few.  One room in the house had been used as a hospice room when family members were nearing the end of their days on this plane of existence.  There is also history of a child having died in this room from “crib death” many years ago when one of the family members operated a day care in the home.  Another room upstairs, as well as the two sets of stairs, reportedly has frequent episodes of disembodied footsteps heard walking around.

OUR INVESTIGATION:

Keisha welcomed the M and M Investigators team into her family’s home and out of the rainy, cool evening on 4/14/07 at approximately 9:00 pm.  She gave Matt and I a tour through the house and discussed the activities she and other family members have noticed, and at times have unsettled them enough to make them leave the house for a few hours.

Our team set up night vision cameras in the “hospice room”, the kitchen and the stairs.  One of the Hi 8 cameras was placed in the upstairs living room and directed down the hall way, covering the second set of steps.  The second Hi 8 camera was set up in the upstairs bedroom where disembodied footsteps are frequently heard.  Digital and analog voice recorders were placed in the “hospice room”, on both sets of stairs and were carried by the investigators.  Digital cameras were used to obtain photographic evidence.  Electromagnetic Field readings and temperature readings were taken throughout the house to monitor variances and possible paranormal activity.

Keisha remained to work with our team during the investigation and though many of the investigative processes were new to her, she adjusted quickly and was able to give our investigators more information and insights regarding her family and the activity they were experiencing as the night went on.  She was also able to provide a few tips to Matt and I from her background in the electronics field.  We appreciate her assistance during the investigation and the electronics tips too.

OUR FINDINGS:

The night vision cameras obtained some interesting anomalies.  In the “hospice room”, one of the cameras had been placed on the floor a short distance in front of a treadmill.  This camera was somehow able to pick up an audio signal from a radio station.  Did the placement near the treadmill create an antenna effect?  These cameras are hard wired, not wireless, so we are unable to explain this anomaly at this time.  This was the only camera this anomaly occurred with.  Also in the “hospice room”, wisps of smoke were noticed on the digital video.  There was an occasional odor of baby powder and clean diapers in the “hospice room”.  The odor could be quite strong at times.  Keisha and two of the investigators noted cold spots in the “hospice room” as if Keisha had a young child sitting on her lap.  Similar anomalies were noted in the upstairs living room.  The smoke wisps were so real that Keisha asked the two investigators if one of them was smoking!  Keisha actually thought she saw one of them with a cigarette in their hand.  The odor in the upstairs living room was described as a smelling like cheap cologne or reeking.  There were some fleeting cold spots and one of the investigators felt her hair being played with.  When she touched her hair, it was very cold.  The other investigator and Keisha confirmed that her hair was very cold to the touch.  The Hi 8 camera in the upstairs living room had some shadows noted in the hallway beyond the stairs, however we are unable to rule out the interaction between the cameras IRs, a mirror at the end of the hallway and the wall of mirrors behind the Hi 8 camera.  The second Hi 8 camera was in a bedroom down the hallway and had a view out of the bedroom’s door.  The only shadows noted were seen on the doorframe of the room across the hall caused when Keisha or one of the investigators crossed in front of the IRs of the Hi 8 camera in the living room.  Several Class B and Class C EVPs were obtained, one in answer to a question asked about a missing piece of jewelry – “in the black bag.”  A couple of pictures taken have some anomalies in them.  See our Ghostly photos, EVP, and Videos pages to review our evidence in this investigation.

M and M Investigators Says:  There is paranormal activity occurring in the home.  We are interested in speaking with the homeowners regarding returning at a later date for a second investigation to try to obtain more data on this home’s paranormal activities.

On Saturday, March 24, 2007 M and M Investigators conducted an investigation at a private residence in Denton, MD which was once an old farm house that the family is in the process of remodeling.  The family and friends of the family have reported seeing an old man in the house and on the, now enclosed porch.  The wife would come home and see a man in an upstairs window.  When she would go in and call for her husband, he would come from a downstairs area and say that he had not been upstairs.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators set up black and white night vision cameras to cover the living room/enclosed porch area, another room off the living room that also encompasses a portion of the enclosed porch area, the stairs, and one upstairs room that the wife feels uneasy about.  A black and white night vision camera was also set up outside after reports by two of the investigators of having a full-form apparition of a man dressed in blue walk past them about ten feet away!  Hi 8 cameras were set up in the upstairs room the wife was uneasy about as well as the upstairs bathroom.  Digital and analog voice recorders were placed throughout the house and carried by the investigators in attempts to capture any Electronic Voice Phenomenon (EVP).  Digital pictures were taken inside and outside of the home in attempt to photograph any paranormal activity.  Electromagnetic Field (EMF) readings and Non-Contact Thermometer readings were also taken throughout the house to look for any variances that may be indicative of paranormal activity.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators reviewed the data collected from our investigation finding no paranormal activity on the video from the black and white night vision cameras, nor the Hi 8 cameras.  The apparition of the man in blue did not see fit to grace us with his presence again.  The voice recorders did pick up several EVPs which you can listen to on our EVP page.  Unexplained anomalies were noted in only a couple of the approximately two hundred pictures taken during the investigation.  One seems to be of a girl in one of the windows.  See our ghostly photos page to judge for yourself.  There were no anomalous EMF readings noted during the investigation.  There were a couple temperature variances in the upstairs room in which the wife feels uneasy.  Two of the investigators could feel the coldness move across the different areas where they were sitting (one inside the room, one outside the room).  These temperature variances were not corroborated by EMF variations or photographic evidence but this is the area were most of the EVPs were obtained.  At one time during the investigation distinct footsteps were heard on the stairs by two investigators upstairs as if someone had come about halfway up the stairs and then stopped.  The investigator on the upstairs landing turned to look to see who was coming up the stairs and there was no one there.  We called down to the investigator in the living room who reported that no one had been on the stairs and gave us the location of the other two investigators – nowhere near the stairs.  Was the old man back inside with us and on the stairs?  Again, we were not able to obtain any hard evidence to corroborate this curious personal experience.   The other thing that was noticed by two of the investigators was the disorienting sensation on the landing at the top of the stairs.  Structural changes have been made during the remodeling that may account for the disruption in the home’s energies or it could have been part of the house from the beginning.  Regardless, once reaching the top of the stairs, it felt as though if you did not have your destination firmly in mind, you would end up going the wrong way.  This occurred repeatedly during the investigation to several of the investigators.

M and M Investigators says:  There is some paranormal activity going on here, especially with the personal experiences had by our investigators actually seeing the apparition of the man outside.  It seems that he may not be tied to the house but maybe to the land as well.  We were also told after the investigation that the wife has experienced the sensation of having a small presence resting on the foot of her bed.  When she described this feeling, her mother thought it sounded like the presence could be a cat.  We found no evidence of this presence during our investigation.

While on a fact-finding mission for the Commerce St., Smyrna, DE investigation, M and M Investigators visited the Smyrna Museum at 11 S. Main St. in Smyrna.  We met Julie, who took us on a tour of the museum.  We informed her about the information we were researching and why.  She was very interested and confided that she felt somewhat uncomfortable in the museum by herself; however it helped when she played the TV or radio.  Otherwise, she had not witnessed any paranormal activity occurring in the museum.  Julie then began work to obtain permission for M and M Investigators to Investigate the Smyrna Museum.

On the Town of Smyrna website I learned that the museum is owned and operated by the Duck Creek Historical Society and that it had been built by George Wilson around 1790.  The original two story brick building has had additions built on over the years and has also been through a series of name changes.  In 1808 it was known as “The Barrix”, just two years later it was known as “The Bare Ox”, in 1818 it became “The Barracks”.  This appellation lasted through 1989 when it became the Smyrna Museum.  “The Barracks” was the site of the first lottery in Delaware to draft for soldiers to serve in the Civil War.  Also, now located behind the Smyrna Museum, is the “Plank House”.  Painstakingly disassembled and reassembled from its original Main St. location, this house built in the early 1700’s has been moved twice, to “The Lindens” and then to the museum in 1999.  Take a step back in time and visit the museum and the “Plank House” to see how the early residents of Smyrna lived.

INVESTIGATION

M and M Investigators began our investigation at 9:30 pm on 3/17/07.  Black and white night vision cameras were set up in most of the upstairs and downstairs rooms as well as one in the basement.  A Hi 8 camera was placed in the attic and at times a Hi 8 camera was carried by one of the investigators.  Digital audio was recorded via DVR from several of the night vision cameras as well as digital audio voice recorders that were placed in certain “uncovered” rooms.  Several investigators also carried digital audio recorders during the investigation.  Electromagnetic Field (EMF) and temperature readings were recorded throughout the museum and “Plank House” using EMF detectors and a non-contact thermometer.  EMF readings were also taken outside the museum to correlate readings obtained inside.  Several investigators used digital cameras in an attempt to photograph paranormal activity.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators reviewed the data collected; digital video, digital audio, Hi 8 tapes and pictures.  There were no anomalies to suggest paranormal activity.  There were a couple of class B or class C EVPs which will not be added to the website due to their lack of clarity.  There were EMF spikes downstairs where the dining room meets the kitchen and upstairs, all along the front of the building.  We could not locate an electrical source for these steady, high, spikes inside.  On the outside of the building we noticed that the electric power meter was at the dining room/kitchen juncture and the Town of Smyrna power lines gave off an EMF > 5mG from at least 10 – 15 ft away.

M and M Investigators says: with such minor activity as a few faint EVPs, we can hardly say there is any paranormal activity occurring at the Smyrna Museum at all.  However they do change displays at times through the year.  If at any time there does seem to be some paranormal activity, the members of the Duck Creek Historical Society may want to consider what new items they have accepted for display.

INTERVIEW

On 2/16/07 M and M Investigators was contacted by a friend, Tim S., who had worked on our behalf to bring about M and M Investigators investigation of Dover’s Loockerman Exchange.  On 2/23/07 we visited the Loockerman Exchange and spoke with the manager Jason and the kitchen manager J.R.  They were able to provide us with some history of the building and some personal experiences.  Built in the late 1800’s it was originally a private residence.  When the homeowner died (in the home) it was converted into a hotel.  It is reported that after the conversion to a hotel several people had committed suicide.  The building has been a restaurant, a clothing store, a restaurant again and then sat vacant for approximately 15 yrs until its current incarnation as a night club.

Paranormal activity has been reported for several years according to Jason.  He reports that several of the pervious businesses have failed due to paranormal activities and several have experienced strange fires.  Activity has been reported throughout the building including orbs in pictures, shadows/shadow people, broken glasses, fallen shelves, unexplained fires and temperature changes, things banging and breaking.  The owner Brett was working in the basement office and would turn off the space heater when he left the office.  Each time he returned the heater would be mysteriously turned back on.  This occurred five times one evening while Brett was alone in the building.   Brett has also seen a “dark skinny figure” from the waist down behind a rack of chef’s clothing the basement.  Jason was working in his office, again alone in the building, when he heard boards from the remodeling upstairs fall onto the dance floor.  When Jason went to look nothing was out of place and he remembered the left over lumber from the completed remodeling had already been removed.  Random items have been found on the dance floor at night after clean up.  Shelves in the bar and in the stock room in the basement have fallen without reason.  The bar manager showed M & M Investigators several pictures taken on the dance floor containing orbs.

Jason gave M & M investigators a tour of the Loockerman Exchange and both basement areas.  The larger of the basements has several nooks that the staff describes as “very creepy”.  All of the nooks appear to have been either boarded up or bricked up inside of the nook.  One nook has several fallen bricks and you can see what appears to be a passageway for about 15 feet before it banks off to the right.  During the interview we where informed that this particular passage way was actually under the street and believed to go in the direction of the bank across the street.  Could this have been a previous tunnel used in the Underground Railroad??   The other basement has two moderate sized rooms and two alcoves.  The first room Jason explained is going to become a poker hall.  In the second room he showed us a filled in stairway that used to lead to a sub basement.  All these basement areas may at one time have been active with the Underground Railroad.

INVESTIGATION

On 3/4/07 at approximately 2:30 am M & M Investigators starting setting up black and white night vision cameras in the bar/dance floor areas and in both basements.  The cameras were placed to afford the greatest amount of coverage in such large areas.  A Hi 8 camera was set up in each basement as well, since the staff reports the basement areas feel strange and creepy.

Analog and digital voice recorders were placed in both basements and in the bar/dance floor areas.  Investigators also carried recorders throughout the Loockerman Exchange during the investigation.  Electromagnetic field (EMF) and non-contact thermometer readings were taken throughout the entire establishment.  Several investigators were equipped with digital cameras and took almost 500 photos during the investigation.

OUR FINDINGS

M & M Investigators was able to capture a couple of interesting, unexplained happenings on one of the Hi 8 cameras that had been positioned in the smaller of the basements.  One, a very faint orb traveling across the room which will not be posted to the web site due to it being somewhat difficult to see.  The others are shadows, one black and one white.  Both are moving rapidly and may take a few times of reviewing the video to actually see the event.  On both occasions, I can account for the whereabouts of all the investigators and no, the white shadow is not a light from one of our flash lights.  The other video cameras did not pick up any paranormal activity.  (See our videos page to check these new videos out)

The digital and analog voice recordings picked up some electronic voice phenomenon (EVP’s).  A couple of them are a bit disturbing, like the one with the woman screaming in the background and the one with the man saying he is going to jab or stab someone.  There is also an EVP which a man asks if we want to fight.  Here what was picked up when one of our investigators accidentally stepped in the way of another investigator while she was taking a picture.  (Listen to the EVP’s on our EVP page).

There were no unexplainable temperature changes recorded by our investigators.  However there were two episodes of anomalous EMF readings.  One in the large basement just after a photo of a large white orb had been taken.  The EMF measured 2-3 milliGauss.  The other was in an area of the small basement at about the time the black shadow in seen on the Hi 8 video.  That EMF reading was anywhere from 2-5 milliGauss or above.  There are also a few interesting pictures taken by investigators during the early morning hours of our investigation.  Priscilla may have even dropped by to check in on us.  (See the photos for yourself on the ghostly photos page).

Several investigators had personal experiences during the investigation.  They reported the feeling of several children present in the basement areas.  They also reported seeing shadows in the small basement.  There was a spike that was found by one of the investigators in an area where just before there had been a photo taken and the spike is not seen in the photo.  One of the investigators had spare batteries in her back pocket and on two separate occasions felt her pocket being pulled on.  There was nothing around to snag her pocket on to create the sensation.  When she did go to use the new batteries they were drained of energy and dead.  Again in the small basement two of the investigators saw a series of small flashing lights that were unexplainable and unfortunately not caught on film.  This event was found to be very unsettling to our resident skeptic.  One investigator heard what appeared to be about 10 notes of an old pipe organ playing while sitting in the area to the left of the bar.  While in that same area later in the evening she heard what sounded like an industrial sewing machine running.  The same investigator twice heard foot steps walking on the dance floor when there was no one else in the area.  Also of note is that this investigator sat on the center of the dance floor with legs outstretched and had the feeling of being massaged on the underside of her legs.  While two investigators where “chatting” with what felt like small children, one investigator had the sensation of small fingers running up her spine.  She asked the “spirit” to do the same thing to the other investigator and at the same time snapped a photo.  An orb showed up on the other investigators shoulder/neck area.  During the evening some investigators in the kitchen region heard what was described as spoons rattling.  While on the initial tour of the small basement with Jason there was a possible EMF spike and a smell of sulfur at the same time.

M & M Investigators Says:

We think we have to use the “H” word here.  With the amount of activity and the varieties of activities recorded we believe the Loockerman Exchange to be haunted.

M & M Investigators attempted to research the history of the building but was unable to come up with much information.  If you have any information on the history of this location M & M Investigators would like to hear from you.  M & M Investigators would like to return to the Loockerman Exchange for another investigation in the future.

PRELIMINARY INTERVIEW INFORMATION:

M and M Investigators was contacted via e-mail by homeowners in the Smyrna, DE residential area regarding paranormal activity in their home.  Homeowners state that the residence was deeded in 1906 and that the previous owners had recurring dreams for approximately 3 weeks after moving in the home.  The dream was always of an older woman saying “You wipe your feet before you come in the house!”  The homeowners have recently moved in and noticed the activity since first walking into the home with the realtor.  They noticed the activity through out the house but it is most strongly felt in the hallway and stairway on the main floor.  They describe strong feelings of someone pressing down on you trying to keep you from going upstairs.  The homeowners also reported two boxes in the dining room had mysteriously slid across the hardwood floor.  The homeowners have noted that the dogs that normally reside in the home will not go upstairs when the presence is felt in the stairway.  One of the homeowners has seen a “green mist” by a dining room window on the north side of the home.

INVESTIGATION  2-3-07:

M and M Investigators set up Swann black/white night vision cameras.  One camera was directed at the hall where shadows and strange feelings are felt.  The other camera was focused on the chandelier and a set of boxes that were “staged” to recreate the reported paranormal occurrence that happened as the family was in the process of moving into the home.

A Hi 8 night vision camera was set up in the attic and one was carried through the house part of the time.  The second camera after being carried through the house to document any activity was placed at the bottom of the staircase looking up to the second floor. Also a night vision mini disc camcorder was carried through the house at times and then was set up in the master bedroom for a short time.

Digital cameras were used during the investigation in attempt to capture any paranormal activity or anomalies.  Digital and analog voice records were placed in the dining room, on the stairs, in the master bedroom, attic and carried by the investigating team.  EMF, compass and non-contact thermometer readings were obtained in all rooms of the residence.

OUR FINDINGS:

M & M Investigators conducted our preliminary investigation on 1-29-07 and picked up a couple of EVP’s.  During the investigation additional interesting EVP’s were obtained in the residence on both the analog and digital recorders (go to EVP page and listen and give your comments).

The Swann black/white night vision cameras provided clear video however no paranormal activity was seen upon final review of the videos.  Upon review of the video from the Hi 8 video that was located in the attic it was found to have captured 2 EVP’s while the other Hi 8 did not capture any unusual findings (see our EVP page to check out these EVP’s and give your comments).

The digital pictures taken during the investigation revealed a few orbs and some other anomalies. One of the family members had reported seeing a mist by one of the dining room windows and one of the photos shows an anomaly in the same location.   During analysis this anomaly seems to be in the air at the area of the window and not on the far wall as first glance would make you believe (check out the rest of the pictures and send us your thoughts).

There were no unusual/unexplained non-contact thermometer readings.  However, it should be noted that the EMF readings gave us much more to think about.  The EMF spiked and quickly maxed out our EMF detectors starting in the dining room and going through the hall/stair area and into the kitchen. The spike was right in the area where the homeowners reported strange sensations and feelings especially when ascending the stairs.  A feeling we also noted on our preliminary interview.  The feeling was not as strong during the investigation as originally experienced during the interview.

The EMF readings were consistently maxed out (greater than 5milligause) in this area without a visible source.  While inspecting the exterior of the home and the yard it was noticed at the dining room/hallway/kitchen area there was a large electric cable.  Our EMF detector maxed out several feet away.  With this much of a consistent EMF it is no wonder that one of the homeowners’ states she felt a presence since first stepping into the home and why there is such an odd sensation on the lower half of the staircase.

As for personal experiences, each of the investigators seems to feel the odd sensation in the dining room, hall, stair and kitchen area.  This was especially prevalent when ascending the staircase.  It did feel as though you were being pulled back or held down by “something”.

The family also showed M and M investigators three (3) keys that had been found when they moved into the home.  Two of the keys were old skeleton keys and the other was an odd black squat key with a large round ring that had a heavy flange (?) on it.  This key when held by one of the investigators gave them the sensation of torture, misery and screams.  The key turned out to be an old shackle key with no concrete history available, but it could have been connected with the underground railroad that is believed to have been in the local area.

M & M INVESTIGATORS SAYS:

There is definite paranormal activity going on here!  Listen to the EVP’s that were captured during the investigation and judge for yourself.   As for the EMF’s, the investigators feel the high EMF levels would provide the energy needed for paranormal activity to occur or manifest.  We will be discussing with the homeowners the possibility of returning after electrical repair has been completed.

Update-We met a town historian a while back and told her that we had investigated this home.  She said that about 100 years ago give or take a family live there that had a several servants, one of them was named Henry.  He supposedly died by falling down a set of steps.  So maybe Henry really is dead.  Just like the evp said.

On Thursday October 12, 2006 M and M Investigators received a call from a distressed family in Elsmere, DE.  Our contact, Lisa, reported that most everyone in the house had experienced some activity but that most of it seemed to be centered on two-year-old Tony.  He sees, talks to and plays with “Him”.  Tony will become upset with “Him” if he won’t take the toy that Tony offers.  Tony will also look off into blank space and say “no.”  The family reported that while taking Tony down to the basement one time, the lights were off on one side and Tony looked through the railing of the steps into the darkness, pointing and saying, “look at Him, look at Him”

Lisa reported missing money that they keep in a jar, missing food that had been left on the counter one minute and not there the next, and a feeling of negativity in the house.  She told M and M Investigators even one of the dogs seemed to have an experience.  The dog was turned away from the family members in the living room but was staring intently, tail wagging and acting like he wanted to play with whatever or whomever it was seeing.  Lisa explained that her mother was a medium and that her father had been murdered when she was a teenager.  She wondered if this had anything to do with what was going on in their home.  Lisa had also done some investigating on her own and had contacted the Elsmere Town Hall.  She was informed by the Town Hall that they were not the only ones to have had problems in this house.

Tony’s mother, Jessica, reported a sensation of weight/pressure over her legs and coldness over her upper body while sitting on her bed in the basement.  She states she was unable to move until after having said a prayer which relieved the pressure and coldness.  Neither Tony nor Jessica seemed too willing to stay in their basement bedroom by themselves.

As the family showed M and M Investigators through the house and where the areas of activity were noted they openly and honestly shared with us that they were feeling stressed and “at each others throats”.  Much of this was due to the oldest son being incarcerated for most of this year but soon to be released.  There were also two more people in the house, the kitchen has been under demolition/construction for a few months and there is a new puppy and a new kitten to add to the existing dog.

M and M Investigators set up the black and white night vision cameras (2) where Tony saw “Him”, and one in the living room pointing up the stairs to the second floor toward the bathroom where Lisa heard someone come up behind her and when she looked, no one was there.  Jessica lay down with Tony in their basement bedroom and we placed a night vision digital video camera focused on them to see if we could pick up anything around Tony.

One Hi8 night vision camera was set up to help cover the basement.  The other Hi8 night vision camera was carried throughout the house for most of the investigation and then set up in the kitchen.

Analog and digital voice recorders were placed and carried throughout the house in the hopes of picking up EVPs.  EMF and Non-contact thermometer readings as well as compass readings were also taken throughout the house.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M Investigators while on the tour of the house noted one thing right away.  As soon as Lisa and the four investigators moved from upstairs into the basement it became dead quiet.  There was a very different “feel” to the basement than upstairs.  Due to the remodeling in the kitchen, there are some exposed wires.  EMF spikes were noted around many of the electrical appliances and wiring.  There was one EMF spike > 2 the Matt noted in the basement.  A six degree temperature drop was also noted in the basement at one point during the investigation.  The non-contact thermometer gave a reading of 62 degrees then 56 degrees.  There were no unusual compass readings to suggest a vortex.

Digital photos inside and outside of the house produced very little.  A few orbs and mists can be seen in a couple of the outside pictures.

(See the ghostly photos page) http://www.m-and-m-investigators.org/apps/photos/

The most interesting evidence was captured in the basement on the black and white night vision cameras.  Two separate orbs were noted shooting across the basement.  A puzzling camera malfunction occurred when our investigator Vicki P. was carrying Tony in front of the camera – When she turned to have Tony face the camera, the picture completely goes to static and when it comes back, Vicki and Tony are out of the camera’s vision.  The final piece of evidence is the “sparkling” or “strobe orbs” also noted in the basement where Tony saw “Him”.

M and M Investigators says:  Inconclusive.  There could be paranormal activity going on here that we were not there at the right time to pick up but we can not say for sure.  Shortly after our investigation, Lisa called us to report more activity and clergy was called in to bless the house.

During a follow up with the family, there continues to be greater activity than before; a small toy car of Tony’s was tossed from the kitchen into the living room, a lamp in the living room came on by itself while Jessica was trying to rest on the couch on the other side of the living room, two support beams/rods in the kitchen were found shaking and stopped suddenly instead of gradually slowing to a stop, the stove has also turned on by itself or when it is on – it will turn up the heat.  Lisa reported having been “pushed” – after her shower, she was drying off and felt a hand (the size of a man’s) on her hip, and it pushed her off balance.  (Lisa told it “Don’t touch me!”)  Also, the three year old in the adjoining house was noticed peeking into his basement window.  When he was asked what he was doing, the child replied, There’s a man in there. – There was no man home at the time.  Could it have been “Him”?  We are going to try to find out.  We have been invited to come back to continue our investigation into this very interesting Elsmere residence.

Atwoods/Blue Coat Inn

ATWOODS RESTAURANT INVESTIGATION 9/9/06

M and M Investigators Team on this investigation:

Matt H. – Lead Investigator

Mike L. – Lead Investigator

Vicki H. – Investigator

Chris C. - Investigator

Shadowlands has this description of the Blue Coat Inn, now Atwoods Restaurant: Dover - Blue Coat Inn - Haunted at night by an older man and a young boy (appears to be a drummer boy).

M and M Investigators arrived about 8:30 pm on 9/9/06 and met with Denise, our Atwoods Restaurant contact. Denise described and showed us where she and a coworker had witnessed an orb with a foul odor in the large dining room, and many patrons/employees over the years have reported seeing a revolutionary soldier and drummer boy. Denise went on to explain that the drummer boy likes to scare women by slamming or rattling a small door in the women’s bathroom and that the Colonel and drummer boy supposedly reside in the attic.

We set up two stationary night vision cameras, motion detector and a digital voice recorder in the large dining room, a stationary night vision camera and analog voice recorder in the bar and a Hi8 night vision camera with audio in the attic. We were able to “go dark” by about 9:15 pm. Much of the activity was reported to occur in the large dining room, the bar, women’s bathroom and the attic. This was where we focused our investigation but we covered the rest of the restaurant as well with a hand held Hi8 night vision camera, digital cameras, analog voice recorders, Electro-Magnetic Field (EMF) detectors and a Non-Contact Thermometer.

OUR FINDINGS

M and M investigators noted no unexplainable temperature fluctuations. One area in the large dining room was registering 3 – 4 degrees cooler than the baseline 75 – 76 degrees. Chris noted that this area had a brick floor and that the brick was noticeably cooler than the surrounding wood flooring, accounting for the slight temperature fluctuation.

There were no unexplained EMF spikes.

The stationary night vision cameras in the large dining room showed an orb coalescing on the floor where Denise said she and a coworker had seen their orb. The orb traveled along the edge of a long table and disappeared, following a similar path to which the orb Denise described had taken. We had a little technical difficulty with the stationary night vision camera in the bar. The tape only recorded for a short amount of time. During this time, one orb was noticed. We also had difficulty with the analog voice recorder in the bar, which also only recorded for a short amount of time. Coincidence?

The Hi8 camera in the attic picked up some of the traffic noises passing outside and at 10:25:52 pm it recorded the sound of something sliding across the floor or possibly microphone feedback, as if something had gotten too close to the microphone. There was nothing seen on the tape that would account for this noise. At 10:40 the Hi8 camera was moved from the attic and set up in the women’s bathroom. Two orbs were noted on the tape, but these were noted directly after someone had passed by and are thought to be just dust.

The Hi8 that I carried with me during the investigation only showed one orb. We also believe this orb to be dust.

For the Digital Pictures: See the Ghostly Photos Page

We did have a couple of personal experiences: Shortly after having arrived Denise was showing us around. We stopped for a moment in a hallway near the stairway to the attic. I (Mike L.) felt as though someone was standing behind me and when I turned around the “presence” seemed to retreat into one of the rear dining rooms. Later, when Vicki H. walked though that dining room she reported having something/someone touch her on the head.

M-and-M-Investigators says: Some paranormal activity going on here.

Attwoods has been demolished on May 9, 2007.  When the new building is built we would like to revisit and see if the conclusions come out the same.

New Market - Civil War Battle Field

While on a short vacation in New Market, Virginia, my wife and I took a little time to do an investigation at one of  the local Civil War battle fields.  The battle field has a wonderful museum called the Hall of Valor that shows a movie about the "Field of Lost Shoes".  The battle field was suppossedly so muddy that many of the young boys/men that fought there lost their shoes in the mud.

Our investigation took place on Saturday, August 5 th beginning at approximately 9:15 pm.  Charlotte took pictures with the digital camera and I started with the night vision camcorder and analog voice recorder.  We were unable to go out onto the battle field itself.  Signs clearly posted marked the area as state property/no trespassing and there was a low gate across the road.  Open from 9 am to 5 pm noted on the sign on the gate.  (The town is really quaint but it rolls up it's sidewalks at 5 pm!)  After getting what I could with the camcorder (and getting startled by some kind of weasle like animal that came out of the base of the tree I was standing by and went slinking silently off), I did some EMF and Non-contact thermometer work.

The night vision camcorder picked up a few insects as they flew by but not much of anything else.  The Non-contact thermometer readings ranged between 64 - 66 degrees.  A few of the fence posts that had been in the sun read 69 -70 degrees, but no other temperature variations noted.  The EMF started to spike shortly after I turned it on.  It jumped from 0 to 3.  The closer I walked toward the battlefield and the gate across the road, the higher the EMF would spike.  Looking around, I noticed a transformer on a pole about 20 ft away.  Also, it seems that the barbed wire fence around part of the field may also be electrified because that carried an EMF of about 2 - 3.  Finally, the pictures...there were a few interesting orbs, one picture that could show two plasm streams and a picture showing part of the road around the battle field that has what appears to be a tall gate and maybe a hand pushing it open!

M and M Investigators say: This may be worth another look and a more thorough investigation when the team can get down there.

Cry Baby Bridge

According to Shadowlands (seen on our links page) Smyrna - Cry Baby Bridge - The bridge is said to be haunted by a baby that was born deformed and his teenage mother threw him off the bridge because of his condition. He is said to have monstrously strong legs and he knocks over trees with them when he throws fits crying for his mother. There are trees fallen over all around the bridge. People go there to party and get more than what they were looking for. Car doors lock and windows roll down by themselves and the car begins to roll backwards. Once you are there, the baby doesn’t want you to leave, thinking you’re its long lost mother and it doesn’t want to lose you again.

After much searching and asking around, Matt was finally able to locate this rather remote location outside the Smyrna/Blackiston, DE area.

M and M Investigators arrived at 10 pm on 5/20/06.  It was a clear night, approximately 65 degrees F., calm with very little breeze.  First, we set up 2 video cameras, number 1 on the back of our truck aimed at a fixed point of reference, number 2 was pointed at the truck from across the bridge.  These cameras were to see if the vehicle would move backward.  Next, we placed a fine white talcum powder on both the front and rear bumper.  This was to see any hand/footprints that might be pushing the vehicle.  Finally, the tape recorders for E.V.Ps, the digital cameras for taking random pictures of the area and my hand made E.M.F. for any electro magnectic frequency changes.

When the truck was put in neutral, it did infact start to roll backward.   The bridge looks flat to the casual observer but it is slightly graded to help the rain run off and causing vehicles to move as if pushed by an unseen force.  The talcum powder that was used to test the theory of unseen forces pushing vehicles off the bridge remained undisturbed on both the front and back of the truck. (I'm glad it was Matt's truck and not mine!)  There were also no other techincal difficulties with the truck as are sometimes reported.  The radio played without problem, the engine ran without difficulty and started again as usual after having been turned off.

The video recordings showed nothing unusual except for some good-sized bugs!  The pictures from the digital cameras had a few orbs and a couple of really interesting pictures with the light reflecting back showing a brilliant white triangular shape - one of the large moths.  The rest of the orbs were probably just reflections from smaller insects.  The audio recordings did not contain any EVPs nor did we pick up any EVPs on the audio portion of the video recordings.  The EMF detector remained at a steady 0.6 except for an area at the center of the bridge where it rose to 0.9  There were no moving or knocked down trees, no sounds of a baby crying and the only thing I heard were the bull frogs croaking and jumping in the water.

After about an hour, a couple of vehicles went by.  We noticed that the bridge moved or vibrated when they went across.  After a few minutes they came back and stopped to ask us what were doing.  Another car pulled up effectively blocking one end of the bridge.  There were a few nervouse moments for us when 6-8 guys and an attractive young lady got out of the three cars and started to walk over to us.  It turned out that when they found out that we were Investigating the reports of Cry Baby Bridge being haunted they had their own experiences to tell.  They confirmed the reports of the cars rolling off the bridge and reported having seen "neon dots/lights" and sounds of things being dropped in the water when no one was moving.  They also said that the "baby" had died, the woman threw it in the water and then hung herself in one of the trees along the bank of the stream.  They told us though that we needed to be out there at 12:03 am to experience what really goes on at Cry Baby Bridge.  Some of the people of the group gave us some leads on some other possible hauntings.  One of the guys had recently wrecked his truck and said his grandmother was sitting next to him patting him on the knee as if to tell him "it's OK".  He then told me that his grandmother had died about a year before the accident.  THANK YOU GUYS FOR STOPPING BY TO HELP US OUT.

M and M Investigators says: Debunked/needs further investigation to check out the claim of having to be out there at 12:03 am to experience what occurs here.  May be an Urban Legend.

WOODLAND BEACH

Woodland Beach has been called haunted for years.  Many years ago Woodland Beach was the beach of choice for thousands of summer vacationers.  But as luck would have it, the beach had a bad year of destruction.  First, a fire destroyed most of the boardwalk and many were trapped and killed as the result  Second,  a severe nor-easter finished the job and really restored the beach to its "natural" state.

Many accounts have stated things like people walking across the water (in the period clothing) waiting for the ferry that traveled from the beach New Jersy.  Strange lights, sounds and smells have also been noticed.

M and M Investigators has answers for the people of Delaware in reguards to the haunting at Woodland Beach.

INVESTIGATION AND FINDINGS

We hit the beach...a couple of times, under varying weather conditions and phases of the moon.  The full moon is reportedly the time that ghostly activity at Woodland Beach is at its peak.  After getting over my amazement of the numbers of people standing out in the COLD on the pier fishing, we got started collecting data.

M and M Investigators initial visit to Woodland Beach was on 11/05/05 at approximately 10:00 pm EST.  This trip was to scope out the area and to take a few preliminary pictures.  These photos reveiled some "orbs" but we concluded that the orbs were light from the camera flash reflecting from the moisture in the air.

We returned to the beach on 11/12/05.  A cold, clear night with the full moon only a couple of days away on 11/15/05.  One of the first things I noticed as we walked down the beach was that at times the grasses at the waters edge appeared to be red, almost as if they were on fire.  The grasses themselves seemed to have a slight reddish tint.  There were also red spotlights across the water that may have been reflecting across the waters surface onto the grasses to give them the impression of being on fire.  We continued down the beach until we came to a stream wide enough that we could not cross.  Upon review of the data collected from this trip, we had various pictures with orbs which we again questioned as reflections from the moisture in the air and one other interesting item...a possible EVP.  It sounded like it was saying "no" or "go"  (Hopefully we will have the ability to post EVPs/movie clips soon).

Finally, we concluded our investigation of Woodland Beach on a cold night with some patchy fog/ thin mists.  Two nights after the full moon and four nights before the Winter Solstice.  Matt and I noticed as the airplanes passed overhead, their lights reflected on the water.  Where the lights passed through the mists that hovered on the surface of the water, they took on what could be mistaken for, the appearance of a human form walking across the water.  A really interesting effect, but definitely not paranormal.  We found no other evidence that suggested anything paranormal occurring at Woodland Beach.

M and M Investigators say: Debunked/but still under investigation!

This message is from the Lees who are in the retirement stage.  Lucky them!  We felt that their story should go here because of the subject of Woodland Beach.  To the Lees we thank you!

I'm new to the Smyrna area having recently purchased a home in Smyrna but not fully living there yet, awaiting the wife's retirement. I read with interest your story on Woodland Beach and would like to share an experience, I thought quite strange, that occurred last week on 5/12/06. It was a beautiful day and I went to the Woodland Beach Fishing Pier to wet a line at 9AM. The bay was flat, no wind blowing and I had the pier to myself as I awaited high tide. I had two lines in the water at the pier's end and was just relaxing, watching the Salem stack spewing steam and distant planes circling into Dover when I heard and felt a sound that I thought to be a group of people walking out on the pier. I turned to see who was coming to join me and there was no one there, instead the sound and vibrations were coming from one of the large aluminum poles that support the pier and have lights at the top for night fishing. As I said, the sea was very calm and this pole ,of all the poles on the pier, was violently shaking. I thought instantly that I was witnessing an earthquake but couldn't and can't understand why only that one pole was moving and nothing else. The violent shaking lasted no more than a minute or two. I am trained in dealing with metal structures and can't understand what I witnessed on this new metal and concrete pier.
Just thought that I'd pass this experience along for your data bank on Woodland Beach.
